Years in IT—
My first mainframe job—
It was in 1984 as a production specialist. I made sure the batch processing jobs (written in COBOL) that “cut the tapes,” ran properly every night. The tapes contained Abend-AID and File-AID, Compuware’s first developer productivity tools. I also ran weekly and customized Mark IV reports for our sales team when they needed insight into our customer base.
My favorite mainframe memory—
The first time I saw JCL, I cried and thought that I would never, ever understand it.
