KEITH T. HAYNES
Mainframe Systems Programmer

Company—
Westfield Insurance

Years in IT—
8

My first mainframe job—
ACF2 Security Administrator at Westfield Insurance

My favorite mainframe attribute—
My favorite mainframe attribute is the dog leg key or as everyone else refers to it, the newline. The IBM default in PCOM is to map the Enter key (the dog leg key to me) to the “newline," and the CTRL key to “Enter.” This drives distributed people nuts whenever they’re dabbling on the mainframe and you ask them to press “Enter,” they immediately press the real Enter key and nothing happens (I laugh). This typically leads to interesting debate over the mainframes use of the CTRL and Enter key.
