Chief Technology Officer
Years in IT—
My first mainframe job—
I worked at American Hospital Supply, on the team to convert the order-processing system on Burroughs to IBM 3081’s. It took three years going from DMSII to IMS.
My favorite mainframe attribute—
There is a purity and confidence that comes with the mainframe. If there is a problem with z/OS, no one is going to tell you to re-IPL (or reboot if they don’t know any different) and see if the problem goes away. The rich diagnostics and well-documented control blocks and structures are the reason that the mainframe is so reliable and dependable. When it comes to being able to determine the failing component and correcting it, the saying on a button I got at SHARE is really true, “Calm down, it is only 1’s and 0’s.”
