RE:Destination z Tips and Techniques Challenge—Part 2!

Technically the best advice that I have received in Mainframe is about OMVS.
At the beginning of my career everything was about working with COBOL, JCL & REXX. Building tools which can be used within the mainframe environment.

But the world of OMVS opened up a whole new world inside the mainframe. This brought to the ability to code the stuffs in Java, C etc which was a more familiar language. This meant that the desktop applications communicate with mainframe and get things done.

With this knowledge we are now working on multiple projects in OMVS (sending SMS from Mainframe to notify users in case of issues, bring the mainframe black screen to a Windows based environment with PDS being converted to folders and PS datasets to normal notepad files etc (other ideas are still in conceptual stage) ).

With the help of OMVS, the possiblities of creating utilities in mainframe is much bigger. Thanks a ton for introducing me to OMVS !!!

The best advice I ever got was from my mentor, Ben Moyle... He said, we have a problem with label processing in VSE, and we need to fix that... We invented BIM-VIO which created a virtual disk for the label area and extra for work files... The project was a lot of fun, and we made a little money on it too... IBM eventually came up with their own VDISK, but for a time we were it...

Usually the PDS or PS bears the ID of the creator or the ID of the person who modified it recently.But is it possible to change these ID's. In the command area against the member name or PS name, by giving ?G?. Dialog box will pop up allowing you to change the ID values.
