Linux on System z Tops List of Popular Webinar Topics

On the heals of the success of the first Destination z webinar in June, we’ve been looking for input regarding future webcast subject matter from the Dz community through our forum and recently at the SHARE Conference in Boston.

At SHARE, more than 50 people voted for what they think would make the most compelling webinar topics at the Destination z booth. We selected a random voter to receive a Best Buy gift card. The card winner was Brian Saper of Massachusetts. The results from SHARE—where people were able to select multiple topics on each ballot—showed a strong interest in Linux on System z. That subject garnered 19 votes. Also receiving votes were:

• Security—14
• Cloud computing—10
• Mobile—10
• Other—4

Those choosing “other” suggested webinars on Assembler programming language, DB2, mainframe storage and capacity planning. In addition, Destination z members can still have their voices heard by voting for a topic in our forum.

Similar to SHARE, attendees will be able to vote at the Destination z booth during the Oct. 21-25 IBM System z Technical University at Enterprise 2013 at the Bonnet Creek Conference Center in Orlando, Fla. Again, one lucky voter from that event will be randomly selected to win a Best Buy gift card.

Stay tuned for details on the second Dz webinar, tentatively scheduled for October. It will focus on analytics on System z.

Finally, if you missed the June 5 webinar, IBM Experts Answer Questions About the Modern Mainframe, you can still download it here. It features a great discussion of the future of the platform with Bryan Foley, program director, IBM System z Strategy, and Innes Read, enterprise architect, TCO, IBM Software Group Strategy.
